Well.. what a start to the season! There have been few updates here lately due to the hugely successful start to the summer season that we have seen.
With the recent spate of bank holidays we have been rushed off our feet… literally! As the motorcyclists are getting their bikes out of the garage after a cold six months to find that their battery has died we have seen a huge increase in our sales of motorcycle batteries. The same can be said of caravanners… you are all dewinterising your caravans and RVs to find that your battery has decided to curl up and die.
Don’t forget that if you have a vehicle/caravan that is rarely used that you need to regularly charge your battery to keep it healthy. If you leave it without charging it, over time it will self discharge at a low rate. If left to discharge fully the plates inside of the battery build a coating called sulphation. This leads to the battery building a resistance to holding a charge, which in turn renders it useless.
If like us you are a bit forgetful, the simplest solution is to use a battery conditioner. You leave this connected to your battery all winter (you can take the battery off the vehicle and put it in the garage if it makes it easier). This will monitor the state of charge of the battery at all times, topping up when necessary. This way you won’t be needing to buy a new battery every year! A perfect example of such a conditioner is the CTEK XS3600 Charger/Conditioner.
