Best Car Battery?

With the new Winter car battery season due to kick off over the next month or so we have been busy building up our car battery stock… the warehouse is looking great with pallets of fresh batteries stacked to the roof! Rest assured, pics will follow.

It is around this time year that we always get asked “which is the Best Car Battery?”. Naturally, this is understandable as we have such a wide range of brands and ranges of car battery. In this post, I’ll do my best to explain why we have so many brands and what each range of car batteries has to offer.

Numax Car Batteries
Numax Car Batteries are our entry level car battery; but make no mistake – they still pack a punch! These car batteries are offered by the British brand with a three year warranty. Whereas other brands produce just the most popular part numbers, forsaking those of us with a non-mainstream model of car, Numax produce a full range of batteries for all cars at great prices. Don’t just take our word for it – in 2008 Auto Express commended it as ‘Best Budget Battery’.

Varta Car Batteries
Varta have three different ranges of standard Car Batteries, each aimed at different market segments. First is the Varta Black Dynamic offering a 3 year warranty. This range is designed for the older generation of cars that don’t necessarily have the latest and greatest electronics installed. The power levels are enough to start the car and power usual electronics such as headlamps and stereo. The next range up is the Varta Blue Dynamic with a four year warranty. With a slightly larger capacity and CCA (Cold Cranking Amps) figure, this range is geared towards vehicles in the 3-5 years old bracket that may have more modern electronics meaning that they are more power hungry. Finally we have the Varta Silver Dynamic range of car batteries with a 5 year warranty. These are aimed at vehicles up to 3 years old with modern electronics such as heated/electronic seats, heated/power mirrors and the like. These have the highest CCA and capacities and are the top of the range lead acid batteries.

Exide Car Batteries
Exide car batteries are probably one of the best known names in the battery world. The SE range of batteries are the base range and have a 3 year warranty. Their top of the range battery is the TE range such as the ever-popular 063TE Car Battery. These have a four year warranty.
